Bridgeview residents will see less expensive electric bills starting in January.

Bills are expected to drop by 20 percent in January, thanks to you the voters, who were given
the opportunity to make this choice in the March 20 primary elections. Your voice came through
loud and clear, and the referendum passed. The measure allows the Village of Bridgeview to buy
in bulk electricity for its residents and small businesses

The savings for a typical single-family home that uses 10,000 kilowatt hours on an annual basis is estimated at $275 per year.

Village Trustee Mike Pticek made the motion and it was seconded by Trustee Mary Sutton to approve Constellation Energy as the village’s electricity supplier for 18 months starting in 2013. The board voted unanimously to approve the motion, and the agreement was signed immediately by Mayor Steven Landek.

Landek predicted the overall savings to village residents and small businesses would be nearly $2.5 million over the life of the contract with Constellation.

"We have taken strong action that will help our residents save money during these trying times," Landek said.

Constellation Energy will be contacting homeowners and small businesses in the next 30 days to notify all eligible customers of the new vendor. The company will spell out its rates, terms and conditions as well as inform them they have the right to opt out of the new electricity program, if they choose.

To learn more about the electricity aggregation program, Bridgeview residents can call Constellation’s customer care team at 1-800-718-1493.
