Sandi Tulicki wheels her father down his new wheelchair ramp.
Bridgeview resident Frank Hovanec is able to easily leave his home again thanks to the efforts of Girl Scout Troop 50287 and a couple of adult volunteers.
Girl Scouts spent part of the summer building a wheelchair ramp for Hovanec with the assistance of Ed Reinhart and Jim Hubiak.
The project began when the Scouts decided to help someone in the community.
While researching the project, the Scouts learned that many people become prisoners in their own home when they can no longer get around as they once did.
So, the Scouts and their leader Danielle Reinhart searched for someone who needed and wanted a wheelchair ramp.
They also reached out for financial donations so there would be no financial burden on the recipient of the wheelchair ramp.
Upon hearing of their project, Sandi Tulicki submitted an application for her father.
The Bridgeview Active Party and Citgo Petroleum Corp. agreed to sponsor the community service project for the Scouts.
Trustee Claudette Struzik, chairman of the Building and Inspection Department, praised the work of the Girl Scouts and their adult volunteers.
