71st Street Closure, Begins Monday 9/19
Beginning Monday, September 19th, 71st Street from Harlem Avenue to Roberts Road will be closed until May 2012 for the construction of the rail underpass. 71st Street will be completely closed over the rail tracks.
This project is another improvement in Bridgeview, which is paid for completely by state and federal funds. Bridgeview is the only Illinois community to be approved for the federal funding from the CREATE Project (a federal railroad improvement plan). The CREATE program is designed to speed rail traffic through the Chicago area and reduce street traffic delays. Anyone who uses 71st Street is fully aware of the need for this project.
The completion of this underpass in the spring of 2012 will give Bridgeview residents and other motorists full use of 71st Street, reduce rush-hour traffic on Oketo Avenue, reduce truck traffic on 79th Street and generally make our entire community more accessible.
